We've nothing but the highest praise for John Duncan. We needed a complete renovation (inside and out) of an 1899, end terrace house, which was unfit to live in & in serious disrepair. In 3 months he transformed it into the most desirable & attractive house in the area. Prior to meeting we had a lengthy chat, on the phone, about what to expect if we went ahead. On site, we had an in-depth discussion, and he offered various ideas & options. We were sent detailed drawings of existing, & proposed, floor plans. Together, we fine-tuned them & were sent a comprehensive breakdown & itemised schedule of costs & intended works. Which we agreed to. On an almost daily basis he phoned with updates & to clarify items. Throughout the works he always tried to source the best & most cost-effective materials. His team worked long days (even some weekends), nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The job came in on time & on budget. I highly, highly recommend John Duncan, a builder you can trust.

Used this company for repair damage caused by internal flood, damage was extensive. Redecorated and put everything right. Workmanship was fantastic and preparation was excellent, all furniture and flooring was covered and protected. Friendly team and tidied up thoroughly when job was complete. Highly recommend.

From start to finish we received great service. Mr Binnie took the time to fully understand our complex needs for our disabled son. We had a double garage conversion done which was made into an amazing large bedroom with wet room area and plenty of storage. Mr Binnie understood our needs and worked with us along with local authorities to ensure all needs were met. The work was of a high standard and we are so pleased with the end result. Best experience i have ever had dealing with any building work. Pre purchase Duncan gave us really helpful advice on work to be done (and what didn’t need to be done). Then post purchase he managed to fit the work in and complete it to deadline at a fair price for the quality of the work. His team all very decent people who all cared about the standard of work. Duncan also made good suggestions to ensure that we were happy with the outcome and I have no doubt that if there had been any problems, Duncan would have come back and fixed them without any fuss. Having recently taken over my family home I needed to urgently replace a garage foundation with something much higher spec, while also renewing a portion of the existing driveway and some minor roof repairs. JDNE stood out as being professional, with good comms and a clear assessment of the work required, timing and cost. Duncan and his team converted 2 rooms into one. The visit to provide the quote was thorough with measurements, photos and plans drawn up unlike a quote from another business who simply took a look and spent no more than 10 minutes. A detailed quote was provided covering materials and labour costs plus those of the structural engineer and buildings regulations. Duncan and his team arrived as scheduled and paid particular attention to minimize the mess that removing a wall would create. They completed all aspects of the job where others may have left the owner to finish off any of the finer details. Fully recommended and would be happy to use again.

I hired Duncan and his team to renovate my garage into a utility/craft room in December 2024. I had initially spoken to a few different companies, but decided on Duncan when he took the time to listen to what i wanted and put a detailed floor plan together, allowing me to visualise my ideas and adjust where needed, before i had even agreed for him to do the work. I felt very confident that he would achieve what i wanted and i wasn't disappointed. The team were extremely professional, tidy and explained each aspect of the conversion was it went along. I did not have to worry about any aspect of the build as Duncan dealt with everything and kept me informed making it a very stress free experience. After being let down and messed around by various companies when trying to get some plans together and a price for our loft conversion, I had Duncan recommended. He has been a huge help, followed through with everything he said he would do, he’s spent time on the phone discussing, came out very soon after to measure, has designed the layout and advised on the options, remaining professional throughout. The customer service is second to none and whilst we are in the very early stages, I’m confident that Duncan and his team will do an amazing job of this. JD did extensive work on our property in Newcastle, This was carried out in two phases. Phase 1 was for a loft dormer including shower room. All the work was done as promised and to plan ensuring it conformed to all regulations. As part of this we had rewiring to the remainder of the house and a replumb and new boiler. Because the first job was done so well we commissioned JD to do a stone finished rear extension. This included a single story kitchen extension with 3 large velux windows and french doors out, kitchen fitting, down stairs toilet and utility room, plus family bathroom over the Utility. JD followed all of the instructions we gave and in both cases deliverd the finished product on schedule. Very please with the job done.

Duncan and his team have designed and built a garage conversion to an annexe, and an extensive layout re-modelling of 6 rooms in our main home. Duncan is fun to work with. He listened to all our ideas and came up with new proposals that we wouldn’t necessarily have thought about. He produced drawings for the builds and sent back new iterations daily until everything was as we wanted it. He project managed the builds well, and finds subcontractors when needed. He is extremely contactable - day or night and he makes sure the work is completed to a very high standard and on time. We are now 2-3 years on from the work and have had no major problems. When there was a minor follow-up issue (cracking in a small area of plaster), Duncan arranged for it to be filled and repainted so it looks good as new. I would definitely recommend Duncan for high quality and imaginative work.

Duncan and his team have done two extension projects along a full refurbishment of the existing house. They have been uniformly excellent. The second more extensive build was during the covid pandemic and there were significant challenges. The team motored through and completed the build to an extremely high standard . Our linked terraced house needed expansion and our preferred option was to have a loft conversion to give a new master bedroom and full bathroom in the old loft space and to create both an en-suite bedroom and second living room on the first floor. Our complication was that our loft space did not have the required headroom for our plans and that previous internal roof coatings would necessitate a new roof. The solution, developed in conjunction with Duncan, our builder, was to lower the ceiling height of the entire first floor thus creating the required loft headspace and to replace the roof. Plans were drawn up and building works began with the erection of scaffolding and a large tenting structure to weather proof the house during the build. The project was completed to a high quality, within agreed timescale. At all times, Duncan was focused on high standard of finish and complete customer satisfaction. We have no hesitation in recommending his company for future work.

I had a large loft hip to gable extension, master bathroom, ensuite and kitchen extension done by Duncan and his team. They were professional and personable from start to Finnish and not only listened to plans but we're really invested in making a space that works for you. There were some unexpected holdups as there always are on any build but Duncan went above and beyond to put his clients mind at ease and solve issues quickly and effectively. The overall time to construction was two weeks , where following from this the works took another two weeks, as agreed in the program. Any changes to design were promptly addressed . 5*+ realy, I had asked other builders to quote for the work. Adapting our bathroom to make it more accessible for my disabled wife. One quoted so high it was clear they didn't want the work. Others said they couldn't do what we needed. On his first visit Duncan told us how the work would be done. Later the same day he sent drawings of the intended work, told me what he would supply and what I should buy for personal choice. He gave a ballpark price. Told me what day the work would start and how long it would take. His crew arrived on the appointed day and started straight away and stayed with the job until the work was complete, on the day they said. Before they left they removed all the waste material, cleaned up immaculately. The price was as agver went up Duncan was a man of his word start to finish. His crew were hard working and friendly, just keep the tea or coffee going. It was a difficult job completed compiteny No snagging needed. I would use them again at the drop of a hat.

I had a loft conversion completed by Duncan Binnie and his team 13 years ago, their team were immaculate workers, very thorough in listening to what I wanted to achieve and kept me up to date every step of the way. The work was completed at the exact time scale that they gave me and to A very high standard. 13 years on, I wanted to replace the circular Jacuzzi bath with a shower cubicle in the en-suite but because of the very unique shape and build no builders were willing to estimate for the renovation that I required. I reached out to John Duncan again to see if it was something they could do for me. As per usual Duncan was very positive and upbeat and everything’s possible attitude. Excellent job from start to finish. Duncan came measured up for a conversation from a two bed to a three bedroom after being recommended, he drew up a few layout plans without charge and emailed them over, happy with the plans we went ahead. Great set of lads that came to do the job. Tidy, cleaned up after every shift and good customer relations. All round great job.
