Martin & Son Builders

From the moment we met Martin when we put the build out to tender we got on like a house on fire. When he was going through all my questions for the tender, there were a lot!, he was giving me lots of advice about common pitfalls, needing double foundation depth than the drawings, things he didnt need to highlight to us at the tender point. Not many people would do this, none of the other 4 competitors did, which shows Martin's true character. He was coming up with ideas to repurpose the cobble stones and other items in our shed so they wouldn't go to waste. He was suggesting ways to tie the new extension with the original part of the house before we'd even finished our first meeting e.g. the type of windowsills. This was important to us to ensure the new extension wasn't too modern for our 125 year old home.

The house was built 4 years previously, and although the client had a decent sized kitchen there was very little room for dining, coupled with no area to sit and relax, the brief given to us as builders and the architect was to open up the back area incorporating the old kitchen area , renovating the old utility, and creating a media wall with a settee area, on the opposite side a dining booth with a large table , bi folding door to the enclosed garden. Both ourselves as builder and the architect Mark Boyd were given a free reign by Bob and Linda to aid the design and the specifics.
