Each dwelling is an ‘upside down house’ maximising the wonderful views. Upon arrival one enters a corridor leading to the main space, a gabled glass elevation looking to the sea. This contains an open-plan kitchen, dining and living that leads out onto a large balcony. The lower ground floor accommodates the bedrooms and bathrooms. A large roof light above the stairs brings light into the heart of the building and LGF circulation space. Full-height glass connects the principle bedrooms to the garden and the fall of the ground ensures that these have formidable sea views.

At Allerford, an elegant Grade II listed Georgian family home near Lyme Regis, we were proud to deliver a carefully considered extension that enhances both the house and its exceptional gardens.

Working closely with rak architecture, our role was to realise a design that would sustainably and sensitively strengthen the connection between the historic home and its landscape. The result is a contemporary timber and glass conservatory inspired by traditional Georgian garden structures, executed with modern detailing and craftsmanship.

Conversion, renovation and extension of a Grade II listed property overlooking the harbour in Lyme Regis. Difficult access and glass pitched roof made for an interesting project.

The project won a Build it Award in 2024 and the RIBA 2025 South West & Wessex Award & RIBA South West & Wessex Small Project of the Year.

Woodland House is a private, bespoke replacement dwelling located in East Devon completed in late 2022 by award-winning Winchester-based Architects, AR Design Studio. The clients approached AR seeking to relocate from the hustle and bustle of London to the tranquillity of rural Devon. Their children had left home, meaning that they were able to downsize, and so they were presented with the opportunity to pursue their lifelong dream and create their dream contemporary home.
