The clients purchased a large steel-clad masonry agricultural barn with planning permission for residential conversion. Their aim was to create a spacious, modern and energy-efficient family home. The project began with a full structural assessment of the existing frame, an internal steel frame was constructed to support the new first floor within the existing envelope. The roof was replaced with new timber, insulation, coverings and roof lights, and new openings were formed for windows and doors including corner bifold glazing. The property was fitted with full electrical, plumbing and heating systems, including an air source heat pump to replace traditional oil heating. The high finish home includes four bedrooms with a master en-suite, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, as well as a gym and steam room. Completed in seven months with a budget of £350,000–£450,000, the project delivered a contemporary four-bedroom home achieving an EPC rating of C.
