This project for Haircut 100 salon involved extending (actually doubling the floor space) and refurbishing a building that had last been updated in 1999. It is situated on a corner site in the centre of Bangor town in what had originally been a dwelling from the 1920s. For the high-spec project we had to pay particular attention to light and water supply, as both are crucial to a hairdressing business. The final appearance was also very important, with the aim of creating a vibrant, 'feel good' space for clients.
One issue that we had to overcome was that the business remained open during works. Even during the breaking through process, we cleaned up the site every day and scheduled any necessary works so that intrusive work could be done on Sundays or Mondays when the salon was closed. In addition, as the project was an inner town development we only had a small footprint on which to work as the demolition and construction works was in vicinity of neighbouring residents. We kept pavements and footpaths clear and the site well fenced and protected. Finally, we were working with a very tight budget, which we dealt with through the economy, adaptability and efficiency of the build.
We were very happy with the end result and the client was too, saying "The workmanship is first class and as clients we are delighted with, and grateful to, Stephen for this work and for his attitude, patience and guidance."
For this project and our work with the client, we were awarded most Heavenly Builder at the FMB Northern Ireland Master Builder Awards 2015. See photos for before and after of the exterior.

Nickell & Richmond were tasked with constructing a two storey extension and alterations to this Victorian semi-detached property on Cranmore Park in Belfast. Using recycled materials and detailing the finished project certainly created a distinct new space sympathetic with the original. The frameless corner bi-fold doors integrate the indoors with the outdoors seamlessly.
This project won both Large Renovation Project and Kitchen Project at the Northern Ireland Master Builder Awards 2017. Take a look at the Northern Ireland awards page here.
