Inspired by the Nordic tradition of remote summerhouses, huts, and cabins, the project embraced timber structures that sit lightly on the land. The design aimed to meet the most stringent standards of the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, a goal that will now be tested with the building in use.
Thomas Fitzgerald, Project Architect at WT Architecture, explains:
“Our design for Taigh na Coille (House of the Woods) reflects a deep response to the site’s topography and climate. Building on our experience with Scotland’s wildest landscapes, it exemplifies our ambition to create timeless buildings rooted in their materiality and context.”
