Location: Hagley Road, Birmingham
Client: Cushman & Wakefield
Description: This grade A high rise office building in central Birmingham was in need of repairs due to water ingress and structural damage at roof level.
T & D were commissioned by Cushman & Wakefield to undertake repairs to their prestigious office block at 54 Hagley Road. After installing a 36m high scaffold access tower in a busy pedestrian area and with all the necessary legal and planning requirements in place, a full survey by our assessment team determined the building’s state of disrepair in full and our proposed solution was promptly carried out.
The flat roof had a number of damages that were identified and a Decothane liquid applied membrane was deemed to be the optimal solution. Following repair work and preparation of the surface by our roofing team, a total of 540 m2 of the waterproofing system was laid to ensure that all further damp ingress into the building was prevented. To the east elevation, structural damage to the brickwork was identified and remedied by our leading edge trained repair crew using a specialist access cradle.
Overall the project took 26 weeks from start to finish, and every care was taken each step of the way to ensure minimal disruption to the building, it's occupants, and the general public. Battling the elements and adhering to the most stringent health and safety conditions, our teams were able to carry out the full repair work on time and within budget.

Description: The building needed work as it was suffering from severe water ingress due to a failing flat roof.
After multiple cases of water ingress, T & D were employed by Mitie on behalf of Lloyds Bank to work on the flat roof at the branch. We worked alongside Centaur to complete a full extensive survey to ascertain the causes of water ingress, and compiled a full specification on the remedial works required.
The installation itself was challenging, with numerous upstand details, plant, gulley’s and drainage systems all adding to the complexity of the project. As safety is always our top priority, we worked together with one of our trusted contractors (OMEGA scaffolding) to ensure the required access equipment and edge protection was all in place to ensure the Health and Safety of our staff, the client and general public.
Overcoming all of the challenges presented, the final result was a complete overhaul of the roof space and a single point guarantee of 10 years has been placed on the finished product, much to the delight of the staff in the branch!

Description: This Arts and Crafts style Grade 2 listed building, built in two stages in 1912 and 1938, was in need of extensive repairs due to incorrect decoration and general wear and tear.
In 2015, T & D were appointed by Mitie to undertake the full refurbishment of this decorative building exterior in Derby. As a Grade II listed building, the restoration needed to completely match the existing finishes, requiring knowledge and expertise in renovations. Following an initial consultation with Derby City Council’s planning team, samples of lime render and paint finishes were sent for laboratory analysis so that they could be matched. Extensive planning and surveying prior to commencement ensured that no aspect of the project was overlooked.
Craftsmen were hired to repeat the hand carvings to the gallow brackets at eaves level (see second photo) with skilled joinery applied to repair the Doric style window mullions and cills. Skilled plasterers undertook repairs to the pargeting to prepare the building exterior for re-decoration. Replaced glazing also required craftsman to repair in the metal casement windows, with new lead work and minor roof repairs.
These extensive repairs undertaken by T & D led to a stunning renovation, restoring the architecture and artwork to its original splendour. T & D's work was recognised by being highly commended by the George Rennie awards.

Description: Restoring a listed building on a like for like basis under approval of local authority
T & D were employed by Mitie to complete this restoration project for Halifax Bank in Boston. The building had slowly deteriorated and as a legal requirement had to carefully restored. T & D attended the site to issue a full scope of works, which was passed to the Local Authority for their approval and comments. With the scope approved and a Safe System of work in place, we began work.
With a TG2013 compliant scaffold erected to protect the public below and the working areas safely isolated with barriers, we completed all necessary bespoke joinery repairs, replaced damaged glass, repaired the windows and redecorated the entire front of the building. Upon completion of works T & D invited the local authority to site to review the works close up for themselves.
The feedback received was fantastic, with the Senior Planning Enforcement Office stating: “the works look very good, particularly the joinery repairs and it just goes to show that with a little know-how and of course skill it isn't always necessary to replace timber windows. The building looks very good and thanks for the job well done.”
