Humble beginnings

Martin Boardman (Director) launched MWB Residence Ltd in 2015 after working as site / project manager on a large assisted living care home for three years. His journey began with small jobs at first, such as patios and cladding, porches, paving and landscaping

Several projects later, armed with his newly gained experience, Martin decided to take a chance and commit full-time to MWB Residence. MWB Residence has gone from strength to strength ever since. Although the journey has been far from easy, just spending time with Martin on-site shows he is exactly where he is meant to be. His clients certainly believe so.

Case study: Bats in the barn

Having seen four of his projects on our site visit, they are exciting and varied projects, each with its unique challenges.

MWB Residence, FMB North, site visit 2, Aug 2022
The project took six months to get the go-ahead because of the 215 bats residing in the area.

Take, for example, their recent project, an old, empty barn. The barn was home to bats, so conservation had to be considered to protect the bats nesting in the roof. Ultimately, a small bat box was made and fitted internally upstairs so the bats could continue to nest. It took six months to get the go-ahead because of the 215 bats residing in the area.

A pitch roof (39 degrees) was formed to match the garage, which was challenging. If that weren't enough, the planning department would only allow the house and the garage to be connected by glass which meant MWB Residence had to make the roof on both sides match the pitch.

Local recognition and exclusivity

Martin and his teams have worked across the North, until becoming so highly recommended right on their doorstep that they now only accept work within a radius of their HQ, all seven of their projects are currently within stone's throw of each other. Hard work, excellent management and Martin being an all-around great guy has projected MWB Residence to the successful design and build company they are today, which includes 14 staff and 22 subcontractors.

It's such a pleasure to have MWB Residence in membership. Martin joined your Northwest Board this year for a two-year term and has already settled in well. Thank you, Martin, and MWB Residence Ltd.
