Lib Dem Leader Vince Cable is right to call on the Government to allow local councils to borrow to build, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has said in response to the Party Leader’s speech at the Liberal Democrats’ Party Conference.

Kieran Magee from Mayobridge is crowned champion, dominating his peers to earn the title of Apprentice 2017, at the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB), Master Builder Awards 2017, on Friday 15th September 2017.

Kieran is no stranger to winning, having already been awarded gold medals at SkillBuild Northern Ireland 2015 and WorldSkills UK 2015.  He is now progressing, as part of the UK squad, towards team selection for WorldSkills 2017, which further demonstrates his ability to represent the UK at the highest level.

He was nominated for the Award by his CITB representative, David Cooper, who said: “Kieran obviously has an exceptional vocational ability and I have no doubt his work ethic will pay him dividends in the future”.

Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “Kieran has continually demonstrated exceptional commitment and determination to excel, and is a great example to others.   We would encourage all construction firms to run apprenticeship schemes, which help people get onto the career ladder and overcome the skills crisis we are facing in the building industry in the UK.

“Two-thirds of all construction apprentices are trained by SME firms like the ones represented by the FMB, and we must continue our proud history of training if we are to meet the increasing demand for new housing, schools, hospitals and transport infrastructure.”

Nick Knowles, building enthusiast and TV presenter, presented Kieran with his coveted prize at the glittering awards ceremony in London.
