Harrogate Homebuilding and Renovating Show
FMB North was at the Harrogate Home Building and Renovating show last week where we could promote the use of FMB members to the public. Thanks to those members who took part in the ‘Ask the Expert’ section of the event.

VIY (Volunteer it Yourself) opportunities
You may remember I have mentioned VIY (Volunteer it Yourself) in previous newsletters. VIY are now looking for new mentors to work on their projects, to share their skills and experience in the trade to inspire young people. You might be a tradesperson looking to deepen your connections and impact on your local community, looking for meaningful work with purpose. You might be retired, semi-retired or looking for a different kind of project. If you’ve got the skills, desire to inspire the next generation and work with patience, VIY would love to talk to you.
Be it a day, a few days a week or a longer period of time, the impact you can have on a young person, their skills, development, confidence and attitude in life is priceless. Here’s their Head Mentor Alan to tell you about why he loves working for VIY.

Caroline Meehan
Caroline Meehan is the Northern Regional Director at the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). Since joining the FMB in February 2018, Caroline has successfully grown the Northern boards and introduced several key strategies to increase member engagement through the North and UK. She has strengthened relationships with LABC to encourage a stronger partnership between both FMB and LABC and now sits on several committees and Boards, such as Leeds College of Building, Vice Chair of Construction Alliance North East, Working Well Together N&W Yorkshire and NE and Health and Safety groups. Prior to working for the FMB, Caroline lived and worked in Australia where she founded a not for profit charity, Heartfelt Homes. Heartfelt Homes provides an essential accommodation service to regional and rural families across Australia when they have a critically ill or injured loved one admitted to a city hospital far from home. Caroline won several awards for her work and was nominated for the pride of Australia medal.
