Rebuilding London Manifesto covershot.PNG

Builders are calling on the next London Mayor to help them re-build London’s post-Covid economy.

They want to see action in three key areas:

  1. Providing builders with access to their place of work

SME builders need to access the City practically and affordably, but road closures and restricted travel can prevent them getting to work on time. The next London Mayor should consider exempting tradespeople from these restrictions to help re-build London.

  1. Providing access to skilled labour

It is forecast that 750,000 construction workers could retire in the next 15 years. The next London Mayor must take action to support and incentivize the next generation of tradespeople into the industry.

  1. Bring forward a long-term plan to cut carbon from buildings

The built environment is responsible for 40% of the UK’s total carbon emissions. FMB members stand ready to cut the carbon footprint of our buildings, but they need the support of the next London Mayor to do so. A long-term plan would help provide the confidence they need to invest.
