Wiltshire-based Stonewood Builders Ltd has won a brand new Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pick-up truck after winning the Federation of Master Builders’ ‘Master Builder of the Year Award’. The company’s award was in recognition of a stunning renovation of a medieval, Grade II* listed hall house once owned by a standard bearer of King Henry V.

Following a surprise knock on the door during the Master Builders Awards ceremony three weeks ago to reveal they were the overall winners, the team at Stonewood Builders Ltd was delighted to meet with FMB Chief Executive Brian Berry to collect the keys to the pick-up in a ceremony at Castle Combe on 14 October.

The Master Builder Awards recognise building excellence, quality craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service, and are run by the FMB, the largest trade association in the UK construction sector, which is this year celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Stonewood Builders was not only crowned the overall Master Builders of the year, but also walked away with the Best Large Renovation prize.

The company’s project overcame many challenges, channelling expert craftmanship and a deft touch in preserving the property’s historic attributes, while upgrading it to modern standards. The builders impressed with the oak-panelled staircase and restored 16th Century fireplace.

Using a range of heritage techniques, including lime plastering and strapwork ceiling installations, Stonewood stunned the judges, who praised the superb quality of finish and an “outstanding” result for the “delighted” customer. “We now live in a beautiful home that is steeped in history, but a hundred percent adapted to modern family living”, said the client.

Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “Stonewood Builders Ltd is an outstanding winner of this year’s Master Builder Awards. The company thoroughly deserves the top of the range pick-up truck which I was pleased to be able to present to them earlier this month at Castle Combe. I’m also pleased once again to have worked with Isuzu UK to deliver the Master Builder Awards. I’d encourage all FMB members to think about entering a project for the 2023 Awards. It’s truly inspiring how much top quality building work is being provided right across the country.”

George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, said: “The Stonewood Builders Ltd project won Master Builder of the Year because of the outstanding quality and the amazing craftsmanship skills required to deliver the development with such a sympathetic nature. I am sure that Stonewood will enjoy the Isuzu D-Max and together with the pick-up continue to deliver a very high standard of excellence.”
