Membership Criteria

Only those builders and specialists who have passed our vetting process are accepted as members.

Membership criteria and checks are specified in the table below:

Committed to offer all customers the option of a building work guarantee from BuildAssure*
A minimum of three years trading history and have provided three years accounts
Signed a TrustMark license**
Had an inspection on a job in progress on joining and on a completed development every three years thereafter
Will have to undergo an inspection of a job in progress***
Passed credit checks, public record and director checks
Verified that they have no undischarged bankruptcies or relevant and outstanding County Court Judgements
A minimum of twelve months trading history
Provided a professional reference
Employer (if applicable) and public liability insurance
VAT registration (if applicable)
Confirmed their business address/details
Agreed to abide by the FMB (and BuildAssure if applicable) Disputes Resolution and Complaints Procedures
Signed up to the FMB Code of Practice

 

 * Building work guarantees are BuildAssure warranties that provide protection to the client if the builder is unable to complete work or to return to undertake rectifications. Warranties available include deposit protection, BuildAssure 2, 6 and 10, new housing and surety bonds.  BuildAssure provide a wide range of warranty products for every aspect of construction.  BuildAssure (formerly NRWB) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the FMB.


** TrustMark is the Government’s national scheme for recognising approved tradesmen, who must offer every client the option of taking out a warranty on any job costing more than £250.

^ An FMB Affiliate company is one that has been trading for fewer than twelve months but has public liability insurance and/or employee liability insurance if applicable. Read more about Affiliate members.
