Castlederg builder, Lowry Building & Civil Engineering, has won a highly coveted Master Builder Award for the best Commercial Project in the UK at this year’s Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB), Master Builder Awards 2017.
The awards was presented to the team for the redevelopment of the Silverbirch Hotel, a picturesque property in Omagh which serves as the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding Northern Ireland tourist attractions.
What impressed the judges most was that the extensive work was carried out in a ‘live hotel’, where it was essential that the functionality of the hotel was preserved while the works were being carried out. The result is spectacular, and the business has now re-established itself as one of the leading wedding and conference venues in Northern Ireland, with the bookings target already exceeded for the coming year.
Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB said: “Lowry had to complete each phase of the build to strict criteria, before being allowed to progress to the next. The fact that they did so on time, on budget and to the highest standards, is testament as to why it is the worthy winner in this category”.
The project, which involved the complete refurbishment of the hotel together with an extension, added capacity to entertain over 1,000 guests, creating space that can’t be rivalled by other local venues.
The 13th Master Builder Awards is a nationwide search by the FMB to find the best builders in Britain and takes into account the entrants’ technical ability, together with their customer service skills.
The company was presented with its Award by TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles, at a glittering ceremony in London.
