In this project an existing conservatory was demolished and replaced with an larger garden room of more modern design. Openings were created from the existing kitchen and an internal wall between the kitchen and utility area removed which created a real feeling of space. The full length of bifold doors on the rear aspect of the extension coupled with the requirement for a slender pillar in the left corner meant some very specific calculations were needed in respect of steel supports. The depth of the extension was limited by the presence of an outdoor swimming pool and this caused a few problems in terms of getting the required pitch on the roof. This was overcome by the sourcing of a specialist tile which allowed for a shallow roof pitch but matched in seemlessly with the existing tiled roof.
