At DK Building we are so fortunate to work with lovely customers who appreciate the high standard of expertise we pride ourselves on.
We were happily approached by a client who works in Indonesia, as he had recently purchased a flat to be his UK home with his wife.
The scope of work included: replacing the flooring, doors and skirting boards, fitting new wardrobes, plastering the ceilings, refurbishing 2 bathrooms and decorating throughout.
Due to work commitments, our client was not physically present during the renovation, but we had weekly meetings and sent weekly progress reports via our CRM system. Due to this close working relationship it allowed us to quickly resolve any issues.
Here is the feedback we received after the work was completed: "all the work done by you and your team is top-notch. So many thanks for all your efforts. We are both very pleased with the final result and the process."

The client contacted us with architect plans for the refurbishment of a 1991 bungalow.
During the specification phase we were able to help match the scope of building work with the client's budget.
The renovation included replacing the electrics, central heating and fitting new windows. A large part of the project was to create an open-plan kitchen and living room, including converting part of the attic into a vaulted ceiling with skylight windows. We installed a new kitchen, underfloor heating and large bifold doors leading out to the garden.
In the other part of the house, one bedroom was converted into a dressing room, two bathrooms and two further bedrooms were renovated.
Because of excellent communication with the client plus his involvement, we were able to successfully produce the client's dream house.

Whilst still in the States, the client researched online for a suitable builder, booked a face time call with Daniel and decided he was the man to help them from start to finish with this very big project.
Wherever possible, original features were retained – the sash windows, ceiling architraves and irreplaceable tall skirting boards. After re-plastering, the skirting around one bay window was lovingly cut into small pieces by one of the DK team and restructured to fit.

Our clients moved in to their semi-detached house intending to modernise it and make it “theirs”. The transformation included demolishing internal walls to extend the kitchen, adding rooflights, creating a new utility room; and converting the incorporated garage into a new office space and bathroom.
DK Building have “definitely achieved what we were looking for” and the bright open space was a great venue for a big family birthday party which would not have been possible before the transformation.

Clients have lived in a detached 1970’s bungalow on the edge of a conservation area in Liverpool for 14 years and wished to construct a small single storey extension at the side of the house. They had a vision of how they might be able to widen the hallway, let more light in to the area and include space for a new bathroom and utility room.
An architect worked with the clients to design a small extension (only 2m wide) and liaised with the Council to help them obtain planning permission. His “genius idea” of 4 full height glazed areas in the extension wall allows the sun to flood the whole vestibule with light and create a feeling of space and connection with the garden outside.
Clients report “it has made a massive difference to the house”

We are helping a client to transform an 8-bedroomed HMO property with 3.5m high ceilings into a magnificent, functional home incorporating some of the original and traditional design features.
Initially two sitting rooms were knocked into one large light living space for a kitchen and sitting area.
The demolition required the use of scaffolding internally and installation of four new steel beams. These have been left exposed for a dramatic touch.

Leaking tiles and dipping ridge meant time for a change - from accumulated clutter to functional workshop and storage area. New roof timbers and tiles covered a fully insulated interior. A new side door opens on to a step down to a concrete floor, and the old garage entrance is replaced with a window and decorative brick wall.

An 1860’s detached house had been in client’s family for 65 years & needed a full restoration.
Internally all old wallpaper & plaster was stripped, bathrooms & kitchen gutted and a wall between kitchen & dining room removed. The property was completely rewired & most rooms replastered. After steel beams were installed, a complete new kitchen and patio doors leading out to the garden resulted in a beautiful spacious functional kitchen/dining area.
Externally, all old render was removed and attached garage emptied & demolished. New render was applied front & back, new fascias & façade fitted, new anthracite UPVC window frames installed throughout & matching front door made bespoke.
Charming old features were left intact wherever possible: handmade bricks on side wall, unique curved ceiling contours and iron balusters hand crafted by client’s father.

A kitchen extension at the back of a small terraced house was remodelled to create a more functional cooking and entertaining area. Natural light streams through large skylights in the new roof over an extra little sitting space, and a smart new downstairs bathroom was installed.

“The property is in a conservation area. We had an old dilapidated garage which needed demolishing, and the Council insisted it should remain looking like a garage. They issued very precise guidelines which we had to adhere to. We had already instructed an architect to draw up plans and we discussed with Daniel how best to divide and lay out the internal space.
There is a large space which we have converted into 2 separate rooms – designed for different purposes, and including new facilities.
DK Building originally refurbished a kitchen for us. This was a rather grim 1800’s kitchen which required rather more than the standard kitchen refurb. The floor had to be dug up and the walls relined. We were very impressed with the way Daniel and his team get to work and do a “proper” job. Not all builders like working around cats, and with this recent project taking 3½ months, it was important that we had a good relationship with the builders carrying out the work. Overall, we are very satisfied with the end result and it was a happy experience.
We are a charitable organisation, relying heavily on legacies for such major projects. There is further work planned and we will definitely use Daniel’s team again once we have the funds available.”

DK Building were asked to completely gut a shop unit which had previously been used as a hairdressing salon and fit it out as a clothes store as soon as possible. The purchase had taken longer than expected and the team were under considerable pressure time-wise to get the shop open for business. The work included stripping out the sinks/plumbing, central heating system, electrical system, dividing wall, toilets and panelling. Unsurprisingly the original quote had to be amended as plans changed. Some bare brick walls were exposed and the client decided to keep those as a feature. One wall was replastered and painted, but the bricks were an attractive element and merely sealed. It was originally hoped to level the floor, but in the end this was covered with chipboard and sealant. There was a tight budget to adhere to and in spite of the changes and delays along the way, we kept fairly close to it. It was very satisfying to see the shop stocked and open for business.

The client asked us to convert the garage space into a utility room and downstairs toilet.
We laid a new floor and added insulation to the walls and ceiling before erecting the necessary partition walls for the toilet.
A first fix for the electrics and plumbing was installed and a new UPVC front door and window were set into the front wall.
The whole room was drylined and plastered.
Finally, skirting boards and architraves were fitted throughout and a door frame and door put in for the toilet.
This was a relatively small and simple job for the DK Building team, but we applied the same high standards for this project as we do to all our work.
The customer's satisfaction is crucial.
A leasehold property in Liverpool had been badly damaged and vandalised before it was purchased by some investors who lived on the other side of the country.
There were cracks in some walls which the structural engineer recommended were resin stitched.
The pipework for the central heating had been stolen, so this was replaced and a new combi boiler was installed. The radiators were reusable. Both front and back doors and some windows needed replacing. The kitchen floor needed levelling and tiling. The kitchen was also tiled from floor to ceiling, and new cupboards, gas hob and oven and overhead extractor fan installed. The bathroom floor also required levelling and some floor boards replacing. it obviously needed decorating throughout.
Work had to be suspended when it was discovered that the rear extension needed underpinning and this task had to be contracted out. DK Building found a reputable contractor to do the work, project managed this job and then resumed the main project. The house was decorated throughout after all the structural work had been completed.
Using the online Basecamp project management system, the clients were kept constantly updated on progress and were able to see photos of the work and discuss options as and when required. This gave the client confidence and involvement in spite of their remoteness geographically.
Although we had quoted for re-wiring initially, this was found to be unnecessary and so that item was removed from the final invoice. The client was delighted with the end result and has since given us further work.

We were approached by an architect on behalf of some clients who wanted a kitchen extension. The project involved demolishing existing bay windows and constructing a brick-built extension; dividng the garage to form space for a new utility room, gutting the existing kitchen and installing a new one. The house was standing on man-made ground and it was necessary to find a piling contractor to install 7-8 piles of concrete 3-5 metres in depth in order to reach the original ground. This was a much bigger job than could have been anticipated, but the only way to guarantee a proper job.
The rest of the construction, plasterwork, roofing, wiring, pipework, kitchen installation and painting went according to plan. The new walls and roof were all insulated above the required specification to increase thermal efficiency.
The client obviously has a good sense of design and an eye for detail and it was wonderful to see how the colours and lighting all came together so well in the newly-created space.
We regularly use the online Basecamp project management system which allows all parties to access the same information about materials, activities on site, problems, sign-off sheets etc. Everyone was happy with this transparent close communication and the high quality of the end result speaks for itself.
