What do the new building regulations mandating gigabit broadband connections mean for SME housebuilders?

The regulations require that when new homes are built, developers install gigabit-ready infrastructure and gigabit-capable connections as a part of the construction process. The changes came into force on 26 December 2022. This webinar explores what’s changed, why it’s important and how you can comply with the changes. Further details can be found here.

Our speakers give attendees an overview of the new regulations and how you can make sure your build is compliant. The webinar also covers the following key areas:

  • The Building etc. (Amendment) (England) (No. 2) Regulations 2022.gov.uk.
  • Cost cap;
  • ‘Connectivity plans’;
  • The requirement to install gigabit-ready physical infrastructure applies even where a gigabit-capable connection is not installed owing to exemptions;
  • Digital Connectivity Portal

We were also joined by Andy Neilson from Openreach, who shared details on how house builders can deploy Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP). The Openreach network is already fully compliant with changes – being capable of supporting ultrafast speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Additional information for developers on new build connectivity regulations can be found on the government's website.

Openreach's information for developers looking to connect residential and commercial properties to their next-generation ultrafast full fibre broadband network can be found here.
