Taking on the challenging task of renovating this large hotel – part of which is Grade I Listed - SR Design & Build Ltd exercised tremendous care and skill at every stage. Each room now features a mezzanine floor with glass balustrades bordering an open plan floorspace, and the historic character of the building has been preserved through the retention of the original exposed warehouse trusses. The beautiful finish is even more remarkable considering it was achieved whilst the hotel remained fully occupied, testament to the builder’s innovative approach and consideration of their client’s needs.

G Ellison Builders demonstrated commitment to this project by undertaking specialist training in order to install the unusual, curved roof feature on this new build project on the site of an old barn. Designed to mirror the design of the former barn, the intriguing structure also features brickwork at the ground level with cedar boarding used on the first floor. G Ellison completed the works with the clients living on-site in caravans as the property continued to serve as a fully functioning farm meaning extra care had to be taken with regards to health and safety. The finished product delighted their client, who stated: “we couldn’t be any happier with the builder”.

Despite a series of design changes from their client – including one that necessitated the unplanned installation of a steel support to enlarge the space available - A J Joinery & Building Ltd minimised delays to deliver a gorgeous new family dining area. Taking on some aspects of the design process as well as the lighting and installation, this Master Builder’s comprehensive service won high praise from the homeowner, who said:

J C Building Services’ transformation of this dilapidated 16th century farmhouse into a modern family home made use of almost entirely locally sourced and salvaged materials to restore the property in a manner sympathetic to its original style and character. The works required a complete structural and cosmetic fit-out to bring the property up to and surpass modern insulation requirements. The project impressed the judges who praised the “great emphasis on sustainable supplies and materials” to “create a beautiful home.” The clients were clearly delighted, stating:

“…we absolutely love everything about the house, every time we come here we can’t believe how beautiful all the individual features are, every room has a number of things that make us smile."

The reunification of the two halves that originally made up this early 20^th century home by Lathom Joinery and Construction showcases a wonderful blend of modern features incorporated into a carefully preserved traditional setting. The two former properties now come together in the kitchen; a fitting focal point bathed in natural light. The works consisted of a full internal and external renovation as well as the addition of an extension at the rear of the structure. The judges were impressed by the “remarkable transformation” of the property and stated that

“…making two homes into one seamlessly and keeping the unique and quirky charm of a period property, but for modern living, is impressive.”

Delivering on an innovative design brief to install a “floating” kitchen corner extension that granted uninterrupted views of the countryside surroundings, Cheshire Building and Joinery Ltd demonstrated excellent attention to detail and customer care during this unique home renovation project. The judges highlighted the unique structural design of the build as a key feature and commended the builder on the way they maintained a close relationship with their client throughout the project. The client was equally delighted, stating:

“The team went above and beyond for us in so many ways, from ensuring the site was always clean and tidy, updating us constantly and making sure we enjoyed the process.”

With some 20 years’ of experience under his belt as a joiner at Dale Contractors, Jeff has broadened his skillset by taking on a range of CITB courses and on-the-job training initiatives, now setting a fine example as Site Manager on their biggest projects. Taking the initiative as the pandemic took hold in the North West, Jeff constructed handwashing stations on sites to ensure staff safety, and acts as an outstanding ambassador for his firm dealing with everybody from young apprentices right up to the senior directors of key clients.. He maintains a positive attitude whatever the circumstances, and regularly gives back to his community by supporting charity fundraising.
