Terms and Conditions

The Master Builder Awards 2017 (the "Awards") are administered by the Federation of Master Builders Limited ("FMB").

The Awards are only open to building firms that are members of the FMB (at the time the nomination is submitted), or are applying for membership and have become members before the 10th February 2017.

FMB employees or companies professionally involved with the Awards are excluded from making a nomination.

Anyone completing the nomination forms should be authorised to do so by the entrant and agree to be bound by, and comply with, these terms and conditions.

The nominating client must not be related to nor be associates or partners of the nominated builder.

To be eligible to enter, projects must have been completed between 31st July 2014 and 10th February 2017.

Entries must be provided on the appropriate nomination form. The FMB reserves the right to refuse any entries that are not in the correct format. Entrants giving false or misleading information will be excluded from the Awards. If an award is given and it is subsequently found that the entry information is false or misleading, FMB reserves the right to withdraw the award.

Online nominations can be sent to awards@fmb.org.uk and must be received by 5pm on Friday 10th February 2017 (please note the Heavenly Builder deadline has been extended to Tuesday 14th February). FMB accepts no responsibility for entries delayed and not received as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

Nomination forms must be typed and can be submitted by post to: Marketing Department, Federation of Master Builders, Viscount Court, 245 Leeds Road, Rothwell, LS26 0GR and must be received no later than Friday 10th February 2017 (please note the Heavenly Builder deadline has been extended to Tuesday 14th February). The FMB accepts no responsibility for entries lost or delayed in transit. Incomplete/illegible entries will be treated as invalid. Proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of delivery.

If submitting a nomination by post, you must email digital photographs to awards@fmb.org.uk or submit them digitally on a USB flash drive or CD. Please note there is a 40MB limit on incoming email attachments. Any emails exceeding this size limit will not be received. FMB accepts no responsibility for photographs accompanying nominations that are delayed and not received as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

The National prizes are as follows:

  • Master Builder Awards Winner 2017 (builder) –  a new  Vauxhall light commercial vehicle worth up to £20,000 (motor insurance and any running costs are not included)
  • Master Builder Awards Winner 2017 (client) – cheque for £1,000
  • Master Builder Apprentice Winner 2017– cheque for £500

The FMB retains the right to substitute the National Master Builder Awards winner’s prize with another prize of similar value in the event that original prize offered is not available. No cash alternatives will be given.

All regional category winners will receive a certificate.

All national category winners will receive a trophy and a certificate.


Nominations will be judged initially by regional/devolved countries judges’ panel and their decision on all shortlisted entries and winners is final. No discussion or correspondence will be entered in to. Please also note that due to the high volume of entries received it is not possible to provide individual feedback for entries that are not shortlisted.

All winners will be submitted to the National Judging Panel who will award the national prizes. Judges have the right to determine the standard of an Award and to withhold an Award in any category if, in their view, entries are not of sufficient merit. 

By entering the competition, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions and any other requirements set out in the promotional material; clients and their builders will be required to participate in any requested publicity.

Descriptions of the winner's submissions and those on the shortlist will be published in connection with the Awards; by entering, you agree to reasonable use of your company name in promotional material and news reporting. Winning entries will be displayed at the Awards ceremony and on FMB website.

The national winner of each category will be announced at the Awards ceremony and lunch due to take place on Friday 15th September 2017. There will be no prior disclosure.

An Award logo will be provided to all regional and national winners with guidelines regarding its use.


By entering the Awards FMB Members and their clients agree to the collection, retention, usage and distribution including photographs of their personal information in order to process and contact them about their Awards entry. The FMB will only disclose this information for the purposes of media related activities for the Awards by our PR agents Ridgemount. FMB reserves the right to use any photos submitted to the Awards free from copyright in future marketing material and promotion of the Awards. By submitting photos you confirm that you have the right to distribute them and that you are happy for them to be used royalty free in future FMB marketing material. However should you wish to decline this please contact the FMB at awards@fmb.org.uk.

Master Builder Apprentice 2017

The award is open to all apprentices – they do not need to be employed by an FMB member to be considered. The person nominating the apprentice must not be related to nor be associates or partners of the apprentice they are nominating, and by entering this competition the apprentice and their employer may be required to participate in any requested publicity. All further information can be found on the nomination form.  

Data Protection

All the information collected in this form is used to evaluate and process the nomination as described under publicity.  All information collected and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Members must ensure that your client has agreed for you to provide their personal details in regards to the nomination including any photographs of their home. Personal data will only be used for the purposes of the Awards and will be retained for a period of two years after the date of the Awards ceremony. Please refer to the publicity term.

These terms and conditions are governed by and shall be interpreted in accordance with English law. The place of performance is London. Any disputes arising in relation to the interpretation of these terms and conditions or in relation to any agreement of which these terms and conditions form part, which cannot be settled amicably, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
