Over the last few months, I, along with my Hub Director colleagues, have been speaking with, and hearing from, members, industry stakeholders and other interested parties around the importance of energy efficiency, retrofit and other sustainable measures. As has also been covered in previous articles, Retrofit and Energy Efficiency are a key focus for the FMB and form one of our campaigns.

With this in mind and following its launch in October, I spoke with Michael Huth, Net Zero Skills Hub Manager at Abingdon and Witney College who’s kindly provided an update on some of their upcoming free events:

Following the successful launch of our Net Zero Skills Hub in October, we are delighted to announce our first series of pathway events; FREE and informal opportunities for you to learn more about the latest provision of green construction technology and the relevant skills needed.

Our aim is to provide clear and simple guidance as to how you can improve your skills and knowledge of sustainability and green jobs. Importantly, we hope these events will improve the accessibility of knowledge needed for us all to play a part in creating a greener future.

The events are open to everyone: professionals who want to upskill or switch career; current apprentices and trainees as well as members of the public looking for a way to learn to ‘do their bit’. Each event will feature testimonials and case studies from professionals that will educate and inspire and could be the start of a new learning journey for you.

Our event schedule is available on our website with our first event Pathways into Domestic Retrofit’ taking place on November 22.

Each event lasts 2 hours and will introduce further options for training, be it hands-on workshops, CPDs, or accredited courses. The themes include ‘Pathways into Domestic Retrofit’, ‘What is Carbon and Climate Literacy’, ‘Getting Heat Pump-ready’‘Introduction to Ventilation and Airtightness’ and ‘How to become a Net Zero Advocate’.

We hope that these events will be of interest to you, your team members or colleagues. As this is a free event, we would like to welcome you to share this invitation with others in your network including tenants, friends, and family who may be interested.
