Summary

E May & Son Ltd are a family construction business with a rich heritage, being established in 1889 and now run by the fourth generation of the family. We are based in Colchester and cover the South East. We provide a wide range of building skills and prioritise friendly service and attention to customer needs, as well as having a willingness to tackle unusual projects that other companies can't. Our dedicated team with combined experience of over 130 years can't be matched, and we have access to the services of a group of trusted and reliable sub-contractors, some of whom have worked with us for over thirty years.

Our focus has recently been on smaller, specialised works, especially the renovation and refurbishment of older properties. However, we are happy to take on most day to day and general building works which have always been the principal role of the country builder. We can discuss any works including the following:

Renovation, Refurbishments, Painting and Decorating, Alterations, Conversions, Bespoke Joinery, Extensions, Kitchen and Bathroom Installation as well as minor works such as roof repairs, glazing, drainage and small plumbing repairs. In addition, E May & Son undertake repair maintenance and improvement works for the local authority, charitable organisations, churches and schools.

All of our staff fulfil the requirements for the enhanced CRB check. We are fully insured against all work related risks and public liabilities, VAT registered and are long term members of the Federation of Master Builders.

E May & Son recently completed this major project, adding a first floor extension to an existing barn conversion. The work involved the complete removal of the roof and formation of a new first floor consisting of two bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms and the formation of a completelt new roof.

16th Century Cottage, Suffolk

23/08/2017

This project involved the manufacture and installation of replacement, period windows for this 16th century cottage, which were all made in our joinery shop to match the original windows. In addition, we built an oak framed orangery for the same property. The work was conducted under the supervision of Duncan, Clark & Beckett Architects.
