Summary

Your home is in safe hands with Parker SW Ltd

Parker SW Ltd is a building contractor based in the Forest of Dean and covering the surrounding areas.

The company is owned and managed by Alex Parker. Alex has over 35 years experience working within various sections of the building trade; he began his career working on new builds, but was later hired by the National Trust to maintain their locally listed properties. In this, Alex found his passion, and he spent the next 20 years carefully restoring and maintaining historic properties.

In 2014 Alex founded Parker SW Ltd, a company which works on new builds and extensions to both old and newer properties. Parker SW Ltd uses a range of approaches depending on the project. The company has a strong belief in maintaining the integrity of the building, always working on producing a result that is sympathetic to the existing structure and its surrounding environment.

In order to achieve this, a mixture of traditional and modern building methods and materials are used, whilst conforming to current building control standards and regulations.

Our most recent project has been a new build events room at The Speech House in the Forest of Dean. The Speech House is a wonderful building; a former 17th century hunting lodge. Parker SW Ltd was selected as the main building contractor to manage the project from start to finish, creating a large timber frame, locally sourced stone building to be used for weddings and functions.

We work hard to be accredited by The Federation of Master Builders. You can read some of our customer testimonials as well.

Conservation construction

I would not hesitate to recommend Alex. He has carried out several projects for me - all within budget and time and with an excellent finish. These projects have been both major building works and landscaping. He is reliable and works well as a team leader. Indeed all the qualities required of a builder.

Extension

22/01/2019

The job was to knock down part of an outhouse attached to our house and then rebuild it, turning a substandard storeroom and outside lavatory into a first rate large wetroom and storeroom; remove a rickety lean-to greenhouse and replace it with a sunroom/modern greenhouse The workmanship was excellent, the brickwork being very favourably commented upon by a chance visitor who happened to be a professional designer, architect and town planner. Alex was very professional, always keeping us informed of progress, telling us immediately of any problems and keeping to his word.

Extension

I would be happy to recommend Alex to anyone thinking of undertaking building work. The work was of a very high standard and met all of our expectations. Communication was excellent and we felt we were able to ask any questions necessary, and trusted Alex's input. Alex put us at ease throughout the process and we were confident that the job would be satisfactory from the first meeting.

Double Storey Extension

Alex has been excellent throughout our extension project. He’s been very responsive, proactive and straight down the line. Working in engineering I know all to well what can go wrong with projects and I’m more than happy that we chose Alex, things don’t always go 100% to plan but he always worked with us to find a solutions. All the site lads were very helpful and polite (our neighbours even commented on it to us!) I’m more than happy to recommend him and his team.

Kilgwrrwg Cottage - Extension and traditional lime work

16/01/2019

Brief:

The job was to add 2 extensions to create a garden room and a bedroom/en-suite with the addition of a new porch. Both extensions were built with a combination of natural stone and lime rendered walls with oak frames, exposed trusses and windows.

We like a challenge and are particularly pleased with the results as access to this development was very difficult. Sat in a valley, we had to cart all the materials, including the concrete floor beam, by hand downhill for 50m!

Again, the maximum pitch we were able to achieve was 17 degrees for both extensions so we used the Tapco slate to great effect.

Walnut Tree Cottage - Extension

16/01/2019

Brief:

The job was to build a new extension to create a new kitchen area and wet room. The existing cottage was build in sandstone around 160 years ago and covered in a cement render, creating rising damp and condensation problems.

We removed the cement render, repaired the very poor condition stone and lime rendered the whole property. The new extension was built with a Leca block and lime rendered to match the rest of the dwelling.

As so many lean-to extensions, gaining enough pitch to use traditional slate can prove to be a problem getting under the first floor windows. The roof you see in the photos is pitched at 15.3 degrees, the recommended pitch for natural slate is 20 degrees. So, how did we pass building control using slate? What you see in the photo is a lightweight, rubber/plastic composite slate made by Tapco Europe Ltd. It is so good that no one can tell they are not authentic until I tell them!

We offer a turnkey service and have all the necessary skilled trades to complete every aspect of the construction process.
